Mykola Dmytrovich Leontovych

Mykola Dmytrovich Leontovych (1877-1921) was a prominent Ukrainian composer, choral conductor, and music teacher, best known for his contributions to choral music and the folk music revival in Ukraine. He was born in the village of Markivka and initially trained as a teacher before turning to music. Leontovych's most notable work is the choral arrangement of the Ukrainian folk song "Shchedryk," commonly known as "Carol of the Bells," which has gained international acclaim and is widely performed during the Christmas season.
